Joyeux Nol !
Blimey! Isn't it cold ! Just got back from posting off all my Christmas cards... and thought I'd say Merry Xmas to those not on my list... It's been a busy 8 weeks since starting up, with new sites for Soho House London, Babington House, Caf Boheme, BKB and Cecconi's... That may seem like a lot, but they are all based on the same interface, which I guess is the point!

I'm busy preparing a special project for The Mill which will be launched this week, and looking forward to a new project for NB:Studio after the break!
Mange Tout !
For the last five years I've been joint owner at Engage and built a studio respected by its peers, those years have been fun, hard work and at some points scary, but am glad I did them. Along the way, I've worked on interesting projects, and collaborated with some of the best graphic design companies in the world... and now continue to do so.

For years people have said the internet will allow you to work anywhere, so I'm going to allow it to give me the flexibility that gives me time for R+D which has always been important to my work ethic.

Yours sincerely, James Stone

Bold, Brash
& In-your-face Interaction
Dave, part of the Engine Group / WCRS were looking to get their personality across with their website. With the 'one-pager' web site being so popular, we took that as our starting point and gave it a kick up the arse.

Without leaving the page, you can access all of their projects, watch case studies, vote on who is the best Dave in the world, download featured PDF's on the hottest topics and much more.

The entire site is manageable by any of the staff at Dave, you really need to visit the site to experience the depth and hidden features that the site has.

An Affectionately Regarded Product
Created with NB:Studio, this is a site for their client VGL, a leading specialist in screen and digital print. The service, SurfaceView searches out dramatic images that lend themselves to home or commercial interiors.

We created a flash environment based on a room set, with each section taking a different place in the area; users can browse the collections, view them in-situ, and then customise them using their own dimensions. They are then sent an email showing visually showing their specification and Surface View then liaising with them to make it a reality

SurfaceView is constantly developing, and mimeArtist has recently launched phase 2 with new products, and new improved customisation tools.

SurfaceView has just been featured in Creative Review's The Annual (May 2008)

Image is Everything!
The Mill have been a client of mine for nearly 10 years, from their very first site, to a design in-house, when I helped run the interactive lab there for two years to when I developed this latest version at Engage, and continue to look after at mimeArtist.

The site works to fit around how The Mill works as a company, with different workflows coming together to create a site that is updated almost everyday.

1. The printed collateral consisted of a very dark grey stock, to keep this consistent online for both Mac and PC users, we detected the browser, and chose the grey accordingly
2. What a great night, when we won a BAFTA for 'online learning'

Pictured L-R - Janine Marmot (Producer), Simon Pummell (Director), and myself (Cake eater by the look of it!)
3. A snapshot of a Hogan spread on the Saturday web site
4. This site offers many types of interaction, from browsing with the mouse, to typing a search, or even just navigating the entire site using cursor keys (which is great for presentations)

A content management enabled site using an intelligent layout system whatever is thrown at it.

Based on a conventional 4 column grid, but with an unconventional way of using the gird, have a play!

Working with film director Simon Pummell
I created the online version of his film, Bodysong, a film of mans life made up from stock footage. The site allowed you to fly through and find out the story behind every clip.

The project won a BAFTA award for interaction design, yes that is my chubby face in that photo!

Saturday
I've worked with Saturday on a number of sites, including H&M, and new fashion chain COS. So it was only natural that their site would follow.

The site allows the user to see the work as large and clearly as possible thanks to a system that works out the best layout for the images and navigational items on screen at any one time.

This architecture site put simply a tool that allows the visitor to either browse, or they can type in search terms and watch the items animate to dynamically show the results data, keystroke by keystroke.

1. The world of fashion moves so quickly that this campaign site is not online anymore :(
2. Barber Osgerby has the ability to style each page however they like, but they seem to just like white :)

3. The site has a bounty of great imagery updated in-house
4. Just one of the sites, others include High Road House, Soho House NY and Electric House
5. Lola was a really enjoyable job to work on, given free reign allowed for a unique online experience
1. H&M

H&M - Fashion 8
Fashion 8 was a campaign for H&M, collaborated with Saturday-London

The build included liaising with H&M's online department to integrate the site into their existing framework. Key components of this site were the navigation items blowing onto screen letter by letter like autumn leaves.

BarberOsgerby
This is version 2 of the site I've created for BarberOsgery, the partner company of Universal Design Studio The site allows the user to simple view all their products, simple and elegantly, the user can either view everything or just projects, or they can type in search terms to narrow down the list of results, all without leaving the page.

Soho House
I've recently finished putting all the Soho House private members clubs online. These have included High Road House, Shoreditch House, Electric House, Soho House New York, Cafe Boheme, Cecconi's.

The sites show last minute booking offers, and the ability to view the latest menus from their restaurants, which are updated daily by Soho House staff.

One of the first launched was www.shoreditchhouse.com

5. Lola
5.

Lola
Lola is a post production house based in London, a simple interaction device of a pack of cards was given a little twist.

The site allows the visitor to go backwards and forwards through the work, and play videos within the site.

The biggest technical achievement was an intelligent loading system whereby the site would start to load images wherever you were in the stack, and then go back and find the next images once the ones in view were downloaded.
This loading device was further developed on SurfaceView

1. What seems like such a simple interface, was actually one of the most challenging jobs I've done, but I achieved it, and on time!

Here is a list of some of the studios I've collaborated with...
...and here are some other studios I love the work of...
A List of sites I often visit each morning.

Not too many on here, as need to get some work done occasionally, and sometimes a walk or simply not looking at web sites is the best inspiration!
Perhaps this is why I need to work on my own! This list is live from iTunes in my studio... Apologies for its content...
1. I've put all these ugly Web 2.0 icons at the end of the site, this one shows I have taken the care to create an interoperable web page, and am allowed to display this icon on my site, aren't I a lucky boy!
